Meet the Team | Keeley

July 7, 2023

At nZero Group, our people at Orbital and Thyson are the best. We’re on a mission to help you meet them. This time it’s Orbital’s QHSE Officer, Keeley.

Come and meet her!

1. Who are you and what do you do for the business?

I’m Keeley Spriggs and my job title is QHSE Officer for Orbital and so I’m involved in project Health, Safety and Environmental, as well as for the day-to-day activities of the company. We’ve got ISO9001, 45001 and 14001 accreditations and my role helps ensure we are working in compliance with these standards

2. How long have you worked here?

I’ve been at Orbital since March 2018. I started in the production office supporting the production manager and then moved into the QHSE department in March 2021.

3. What do you enjoy about the job?

I like the fact I get to speak with everyone. We do a lot of work for National Grid, and they have very high standards when it comes to Health and Safety, and this has improved my own knowledge and my expectations.

There’s a good safety culture here; our people all understand how important it is. When you’re working with a global business like National Gas Transmissions, it’s paramount that they know we’re on the same page as they are. To that end, I liaise with their side a lot to ensure we’re working to their high standards.

The other thing I enjoy is the training culture here. I’ve been able to achieve my NEBOSH General Certificate and the IEMA foundation certification in Environmental Management, and I’ve just started my Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety qualification. That can be done in 10 months so that’s what I am aiming for.

4. What are the next challenges you’re looking forward to?

We’re bringing in some new projects for 2023 [this year] and so I’m hoping I can get more involved with the project work. That would mean even more site visits, and more involvement in the initial meetings, which will bring me greater insights from the very beginning.

5. Why do you think your role in what Orbital – and the nZero Group does – process engineering and the solutions they provide – is so important?

The very first thing is, it keeps everyone safe so everyone goes home at the end of the day. It keeps us compliant and supports our reputation with customers, who value our safety record, practices, and ISO accreditations (renewed in 2022).

6. Why are Orbital’s values important to you?

Safety is our top value. The majority of people who work here have experience working in other companies where high safety standards are culturally normal and so they naturally embrace this value.

The main thing I like about working here is the people. It’s a great team, everyone works together, and the senior management are supportive. They champion health and safety as well.

7. What would you like to see happen in the future for you?

I’d like to think my Level 6 will help me progress. What to, I’m not sure yet. We’re expanding and have a lot of work coming in so there could be any number of roles that get created through that – and I want to be part of that, whatever it is.
